What is Diabetes?
Diabetes is a chronic condition that affects the way the body processes blood sugar (glucose). It occurs when the body is unable to produce or properly use insulin, a hormone that helps regulate blood sugar levels. There are two main types of diabetes: type 1 and type 2.
Type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune disease in which the body attacks and destroys the cells that produce insulin. It is typically diagnosed in children and young adults and requires insulin therapy to manage blood sugar levels.
Type 2 diabetes is the most common form of diabetes and occurs when the body becomes resistant to insulin or is unable to produce enough insulin. It is often associated with obesity and can be managed through a combination of lifestyle changes, such as diet and exercise, and medications.
